I am an experienced counselor who has spent the last 12 years walking with people through some of the most painful and stressful times in their lives. Though I enjoy the stability of having my own office, in the past I have done counseling from a patrol car, in locked units, out of a run-down school portable, and in people's homes (plus pretty much any other random community setting you can imagine). I have been a licensed therapist since 2015 and have worked in the mental health field since 2008.
When I have a moment of free time from raising two young kids, some of my hobbies and passions include doing puzzles (anything from crossword to jigsaw), planning trips I may never take, and reading thought-provoking books. I also love watching witty comedies (Arrested Development, The Office, and Seinfeld are some of my favorites). Whether it's through discussing relatable memes or an existential discussion about the meaning of life, my strength is in connecting with clients and providing hope. I am cynical about many things, but I am also stubbornly optimistic about the growth and healing people can achieve when they have the courage to be vulnerable and maybe try something new. |
Philosophy and approach
Some of the approaches I tend to use with clients include:
- Person-centered
- Existential therapy/logotherapy
- Motivational Interviewing
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
- Collaborative Problem Solving
- Brainspotting
Experience/training
In addition to private practice, I have worked with clients in a variety of settings including mobile crisis response, psychiatric residential, day treatment, and school-based outpatient. This means that I have worked with clients with a broad variety of issues and experiences, and with everything from very acute to very high-functioning cases.
I have a M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from George Fox University (completed 2013), and have specialized training in play therapy, suicide assessment, and Brainspotting. I became a registered intern therapist with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists (OBLPCT) in 2013 and finished the process to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in 2015. As an LPC, I abide by the OBLPCT and ACA's Code of Ethics.
